COMING INTO THE COUNTRY
BOOKS ABOUT ALASKA - DETAIL PAGE TO BUY ALASKAN BOOKS

This book in very nostalgic for me as it is for many other Alaskans. Coming into the country, by John McPhee was written in the '70's when i came up to the Great land. While McPhee doesn't get it exactly right (he is an Easterner after all) he does capture the flavor of what we all were living. particularly his descriptions of the bush rats that had turned their backs on all that supposedly is American to go far into the wilderness trying to find what our culture has lost is great reading. But as I said, especially from one that was deep in the bush at the time it does have some misinterpretations of what were the motives and affections of the woodsman.
